Run your own assistant and reach it through Discord
Your assistant keeps running on your own server when you close your laptop. You'll set it up in Docker, keep it off the public internet, and control it through a secured Discord connection. It only carries out sensitive actions once you've explicitly confirmed them.

- You'll set up the assistant in an isolated container. You'll configure the server and SSH access. Then you'll check that the assistant runs while its port remains unreachable from the public internet.
- Access stays limited to your own devices. A private network connects your devices to the server. You'll require authentication and allow only the connections you need through the firewall.
- You'll review extensions before loading them. You'll review the source and contents of third-party skills. The hardening check then covers access, authentication, the firewall, and loaded extensions.
- Strangers in your Discord channel can't control your assistant. You'll protect the bot token and allow only authorised users. For sensitive actions, you'll set up a confirmation step and test it.
- Updates and backups follow a defined routine. You'll pin a tested version and prepare a rollback before updating. You'll also practise restoring data and identify when you need a data protection specialist.
Prerequisite: Automate Yourself
This add-on requires the Automate Yourself course (€49). It builds directly on the module 'Self-hosting as the bridge to the add-on' and picks up where the base course ends. If you do not yet have Automate Yourself, start there first.

Every lesson tells you what you'll be able to do afterwards and where its limits are. The server is an extra cost, though a small VPS only runs to a few euros a month.

That's a promise from me, not a statutory right, and it holds even after the statutory right of withdrawal has ended. It's written into the terms.
Honest about the right of withdrawal: because you explicitly consent to immediate access at checkout, the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal ends when the course is unlocked. That isn't fine print, it's the reason the first lesson is open. The details are in the withdrawal information.
